Problem and positioning
Part of Thesis summary. Why this method is needed, and how it differs from methods that came before.
- Motivation: the usual "nearest building" method ignores streets and open spaces and ignores GPS error. Earlier probabilistic methods only work for people who are moving.
- Research questions: the goal of the thesis and its three research questions.
- Positioning against deterministic assignment: methods that give one fixed answer, compared with this method, which gives probabilities.
- Extending map matching to stationary stays: which ideas from map matching (matching moving GPS tracks to roads) still work for a person who is standing still.
Meetings: RQ2 diagnostics and RQ3 ceiling check (the first draft of the discussion, which later became Section 6.1).
